Six South Australian referees were appointed by Volleyball Australia to officiate at two major beach volleyball tournaments in March 2025: the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour (ABVT) and the VOLLEYSLAM Futures World Beach Pro Tour.

The SA representatives were:

• Dennis Redman

• Pete Bawhey

• David Wei

• Rebekah Felstark

• Alicia Espinosa

• Monique Fulcher

These appointments required Level 2 accreditation or higher, strong performances in the summer series and endorsement by referee delegates.

Challenging conditions tested officials and players alike, with most days under heat policy protocols and a wild Saturday of wind and rain that destroyed gazebos.

Despite this, matches continued, and referees held daily debriefs to ensure consistent decision-making across the courts. The events were also a key lead-up to the 2025 World Beach Volleyball Championships in Adelaide this November, and referees were eager to impress.

A highlight came when South Australia's David Wei received the Volleyball Australia Development Award, recognising his continual growth throughout the season. Dennis Redman accepted the award on his behalf alongside ABVT Tournament Referee Delegate Darren Grimsey. David shared:

"I could not have had this learning curve without the support and mentoring from my fellow referees, both emerging and seasoned. The journey continues, and this will forever be what drives my development in the future."
