"In Love With The Process" - Interview with Nic Rogers
5 February 2025
Our People CompetitiveThe 2024/25 South Australian Beach Volleyball Series (SABVS) is in full swing, and one player has emerged as a dominant force. After a slow start to the season, Nicholas Rogers and partner Millon have hit their stride, winning three of their last four events.
“It’s been a great season so far,” Nic said. “We’ve really settled into our partnership and are feeling confident.”
One of the highlights of the season came when Nic teamed up with Cooper Bevan, a junior player he had previously coached. The duo finished in the top three, marking a special moment in his career.
“Seeing a player develop and then competing alongside them as a teammate is an amazing experience,” he said.
The level of competition in the SABVS has intensified this season, with emerging junior players and high-level athletes making appearances. This has led to challenging matches, particularly in the finals. “There’s been some really tough games this year,” he noted. “The competition is stronger than ever.”
With such strong competition, we asked Nic how he continues to grow and chase his goals, with which he told us "I think a big part of it is falling in love with the process and being focussed on self-improvement rather than the results. If you’re willing to turn up to the beach every chance you get and enjoy yourself regardless of the conditions, the results will follow that."
Currently, Nic is tied for the most event wins alongside Millon Jones and Henry Ambagtsheer. He acknowledges the challenge ahead as he looks to maintain his position at the top.
“Millon’s obviously a great player, and hopefully, we can stay on top,” he said. “As for Henry, there’s no tougher matchup—when I see his name on the scoresheet, I know it’s going to be a long game.”
When asked to sum up the feeling of winning a tough match in just five words, his response was simple:
“I’m. going. for. a. swim.”
With the season nearing its final stretch, eyes will be on Nic and his partner Millon to see if they can maintain their winning form and claim the top spot.
