28 June 2024
SAVL Our PeopleEncouraging Respect and Safety On and Off the Court
Volleyball South Australia is proud to support the Sammy D Foundation’s 2024 Violence Prevention Round, coinciding with the South Australian Volleyball League’s (SAVL) Round 12. This initiative, taking place from Friday, 28 June to Sunday, 30 June 2024, aims to foster a culture of respect and safety within the community by addressing the severe impacts of violence.
The Sammy D Foundation was established in memory of Sam Davis, who tragically lost his life to a violent assault. The foundation’s mission is to educate young people about the consequences of violent behaviour and promote positive community attitudes. Volleyball SA’s participation in this round underscores its commitment to raising awareness about violence prevention and empowering players, coaches, and community members to act as positive role models.
Yesterday afternoon, SAVL players Cheniah Potts from Mount Lofty and Cohen Taylor from USC volleyball clubs joined Volleyball SA’s CEO, Karla Della Pietra, at a press conference hosted by the Sammy D Foundation at Adelaide Oval. This was an opportunity for our representatives to connect with other role models in the South Australian sports community, sharing their ambitions for raising awareness about violence prevention and the important work the foundation does.
When asked about the significance of this initiative, Karla Della Pietra, Volleyball SA’s CEO, stated,
“The Sammy D Foundation's partnership with Volleyball SA offers a valuable platform for athletes, coaches, staff, and spectators to serve as positive role models and engage in critical conversations about the impacts of violence. We are proud to contribute to the Foundation's mission by participating in the Violence Prevention Round”
In a show of support for violence prevention, SAVL players this weekend will wear blue taped armbands and host conversations about the importance of violence prevention during presentations before and after games at all league venues across the state. Volleyball SA encourages everyone to attend and support this significant round at various venues across South Australia. Your presence and support can make a substantial difference in spreading the message of non-violence and community solidarity.
