Kelly Lean joins the VSA Performance Pathways Coaching team!
29 September 2024
Performance Our PeopleVolleyball South Australia is delighted to announce Kelly Lean has been appointed to join the VSA Performance Pathway coaching team.
Kelly has some amazing experience behind her as both a player and coach. Kelly played 4 years of USA collegiate volleyball in her early years, captaining her National Championship team in the NJCAA, as well as playing 2 years in NCAA D1.
Kelly graduated with a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology, which she has found to be incredibly useful working with athletes.
Kelly was selected for the Australian Women's National Team in 2016, competing in a number of international competitions each year. She went on to captain the team from 2019, before retiring at the end of 2022 with over 70 caps for Australia.
Simultaneously, Kelly competed for 3 seasons with the Melbourne Vipers in the Australian Volleyball League, walking away with two championships and a bronze medal.
Currently, Kelly is the Head Coach of the Under 18s National team, a position she earned through experience in her roles as Head Coach for the Greater Melbourne Volleyball Academy and Program Director for Wesley College (Melbourne) Volleyball.
"These current and former roles have built a huge amount of drive within me to provide consistent, disciplined but nurturing environments for athletes and to support other coaches to find their own ways to provide the same."
Speaking on her new position with Volleyball SA, Kelly said: "I am most excited to work within a structured program that VSA has and not only support athletes in their skill development but their capacity to be the best versions of themselves on and off the court."
Volleyball South Australia CEO, Karla Della-Pietra, added: “We are delighted and privileged to have someone with Kelly's experience join the VSA team.
Kelly brings with her a wealth of knowledge, and to have her developing South Australia's up-and-coming athletes is incredibly exciting."
