Incase you were wondering "why are they only playing to 18 points" - The 2024 Mahindra Super League format is a little different to regular volleyball! With the addition of 'Power Plays', shorter sets and no time-outs, it's much faster paced, and incredibly exciting!
Here's a refresher of the rules:
POINTS & SETS
- Each match must be played to a full five sets
- A set is won by the first team to 18 (no win by 2 margin needed)
POWERPLAY
When a team uses a POWERPLAY, they can earn double points for their next three rallies!
- Each team has three POWERPLAYS per match
- Only one POWERPLAY can be used per set, per team
- POWERPLAYS cannot be activated after the 11 point mark
- Both teams can use a POWERPLAY at the same time
TIMEOUTS
There are no timeouts, and two minutes allocated between sets
COMPETITION POINTS
- Each set won gives a team two competition points
- A bonus competition point is earned by winning with a total of 20+ points more than the opposition
- A bonus competition point is earned by losing, but coming within 10 or less points of the opponent
