Zachery Schubert has qualified for his first Olympic Games!
14 June 2024
Performance Our People CompetitiveVolleyball South Australia are incredibly proud to congratulate SA superstar, Zachery Schubert, and Victorian partner Thomas Hodges, on their qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic games!
The pair recently secured their spot with a #16 ranking, after many years of hard work, dedication, resilience and perseverance!
When asked about his recent selection, Schubert shared
"my favorite thing about this whole experience has been how challenging it is to qualify for the Olympics. I have enjoyed the process no matter the extreme highs and lows."
Schubert found his love for volleyball playing in his high school team in Loxton, leading him to his first SA representative team trial. Although Schubert was unsuccessful on this occasion, he was invited out to trial for a South Australian Sports Institute scholarship.
Schubert successfully secured a Tier 3 spot and began travelling down to Adelaide every weekend for trainings and games.
Once Schubert finished school, he moved down to Adelaide and began playing on as many World Tour events as possible.
Through the Volleyball South Australia Performance Pathway, and under the guidance of supportive coaches and mentors, Schubert honed his skills, laying the foundation for his future success.
Both Schubert, and Hodges recently returned from injury related surgeries, which inevitably ended up being the reason for their partnership. Schubert was rehabilitating from a double-knee surgery, something that came about during the last Olympic qualification cycle.
Now back and better than ever, the unexpected pair have exceeded all expectations and locked in their ticket for Paris!
Volleyball SA wishes Schubert and Hodges the best of luck in their Olympic journey, and look forward to sharing updates on the teams success!
